I am a Winner!

Even though I picked KVD to win in Super 6 and had him on my BASS Fantasy Fishing roster, it was my FLW picks that gave me a 16th over all at Lake Norman, which entitles me to a Free FLW T-Shirt   The guy that is running our group has been giving out prizes for winners in our group and I won that as well.  Does it really get any better then this?

Yes it does!  Because I scored 40 points in Super 6, I won $5 from Mr. Veech!!!!

Overall I am still hanging in the overall standing for BASS Fantasy at 23rd overall.

I need to start thinking about who I am going to plug in at the #5 spot for the next major tournament……

I plan on doing some summaries of patterns and lure for the last two Elite Series tourneys on Clarks Hills & Guntersville, so look for those soon.  Also, thanks to email subscriber #29, they are joining fast & furiously these days.

Monday Bass Fishing Randomness April 23rd, 2007

I think Monday Bass Fishing Randomness could be a regular feature….

Let’s start by congratulating Mike McClelland on running down Chris Lane on the final day at Clarks Hills Reservoir.  Sounds like Mike’s Jewel jig strikes again, to give him his second win in as many years.  Also, of note Derek Remitz aka the Wolverine or Next Big Thing turns in another solid Top 5 and anchors my fantasy team when the likes of Steve Kennedy & KVD let me down a little this week.  On the flip side, consistency of Skeet Reese and the late addition of Casey Ashley helped me maintain a 13th best overall in the nation, as well as close the point margin to #1

I have decided to leave my roster as is for Guntersville, my top 4 guys are & have been studs and I do not see any better options then Mr. Ashley for his $ value, plus he is supposed to be a damn good singer.

Team   Totals   Value
ANGLER HOMETOWN   RANK POINTS   MARKET LOCKED
VanDam, Kevin Kalamazoo, MI   4 398   16.6 15.7
Remitz, Derek Hemphill, TX   2 493   5.3 4.4
Kennedy, Steve Auburn, AL   3 425   9.6 10.0
Reese, Skeet Auburn, CA   1 575   16.5 15.3
Ashley, Casey Donalds, SC   30 195   4.8 4.4
Total Rating   52.8 49.8

On the flip, side my Super 6 has not been stellar this year, so here is my guys for Guntersville….

1 Kevin VanDam (edit) 1
2 Gerald Swindle (edit) 2
3 Steve Kennedy (edit) 3
4 Michael Iaconelli (edit) 4
5 Timmy Horton (edit) 5
6 Alton Jones (edit) 6

Hopefully these guys will help me run down Mr. Veech!

Let’s talk about some cool bass websites that I have found of late:
ToyotaFishing.com – follows the Toyota Tundra team on the tour, they have web video episodes that are pretty cool.  Scroggins, Hack, Wolak, Ike, KVD & More
BassZone.com – This site is top notch, live chat, blog & video updates during competition days at Elite Series events, plus video wraps ups with the winners and more!

Also, thanks to those that made my seminar on Saturday, many of you were very interested in the flipping snell knot, see this post!  Also, two more subscribers hopped on board over the weekend, thank you #26 & #27!

Do not forget to get in your FLW picks for Fort Loudoun-Tellico Lakes.

Congrats to Aaron Martens on getting his first big win with BASS, even though he has won a lot of big tournaments in the past, this had to mean a lot.  Also note, Derek Remitz continues to impress all with a runner up finish at the Delta.  Derek just needs to keep making Top 50 cuts and he will be fishing the Classic again as well as the Major’s.  They have yet to update the ROY or AOY standings from yesterday yet.  The coverage of the weigh-in and the new pre-game show “Hooked-Up” was pretty good on Bassmaster.com yesterday.

I also read a very interesting note in my latest FLW mag.  Vermont has banned all lead sinkers & weights less then 1/2oz not including jigs, spinnerbaits, etc.  So basically if you want to fish a texas rig worm, you need to be using steel, brass, bismuth or tungsten sinkers in Vermont.  Add Vermont to the growing list of states with Lead Bans, which also include parts of Canada & New Hampshire.  States like Maine & New York have banned the sale of sinkers weighing less then 1oz.  MN has similar current legislation, but they do not have clear language that would exclude jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, etc.  That could make bass fishing in MN very expensive if that is not clarified.  We should all be contacting our representatives about this.

Also cool, Stay’nCharge.com has added a new discussion board to answer questions about product, troubleshooting & installation.

My trip to Charlotte last week was frustrating because it left no time for blogging, and put me behind when I got back to the office.  I also in one day, drove over Lake Wylie, then by a big new Bass Pro Shops and then over lakes High Rock & Norman

Great Start to 2007 Classic and Mild Fantasy Start for Me

Man there was a ton of fish caught today and many a nice bags.  Boyd Duckett was a stud today and a fantasy steal.  You would have to be a great Bass Fishing Mind to put him on your team….  Boy am I glad I did not swap out Duckett for Remitz like I almost did, phew….

All in all, I thought all the Classic Coverage was very solid!

Bassmaster Classic Starts Tomorrow

Man time flies, cannot believe it is here.  I need to go home and clear space on the DVR so I can record all the coverage.  I am also excited to watch the weigh-ins on the internet and live chats and all that Jazz

Other cool stuff….
Jason Quinn’s unbelievable new ride
You can see it at the Classic, I also hope to check it out at Amistad, I stayed right next to Randy Howell and his Purolator ride last year.

Also, last reminder to get your fantasy lineups set for the Classic, here are mine……

I was really torn on the last spot, almost went with Derek Remitz over Boyd Duckket, I am also mad about leaving .3 pts on the table…

ESPN Fantasy Bass Fishing

Just a quick reminder, ESPN B.A.S.S. Fantasy Bass Fishing is set to open tomorrow online   and the Super 6 game is fun too, besides I am better at that, finished 9th in the world there last year, opposed to the 4153 place finish in the regular fantasy fishing

Fed Champs on ESPN2, Weekend Series Day 2, and Fantasy Fishing

Just got done watching the Federation Nation Championships on the deuce this morning, couple takeaways:
1. It was great seeing the elation and true excitement for the 6 guys that made the Classic
2.  It was cool seeing two guys that I fished against in the Northern Regional on TV (Terry McWilliams & Mike Mattis)
3. I thought the coverage was better, at minimum we saw the top 2 guys in each division on TV, which was way better then last year, it seems ESPN made a effort to improve that

You can also see the updated Day 2 standings from the Weekend Series Championships on the web.  Todd Lee from Oklahoma brought in an amazing 31-3 lbs which included a 10-15 and 9-14 pair of giants (picutred below).  Also of note, there are still 2 Minnesota anglers (Leifermann & Borkowski) in the Top 12 and those 12 will fish today for the title and one will be fishing the Classic in 4 weeks.
 See full boater standings below

Also noted on TV this morning, Fantasy Fishing for BASS will open on February 2, 2007
