Trend vs. Mirage: PETA’s real motives….

Came across a few good articles shedding some unfavorable light one what PETA really does.  PETA would like you to believe they are all about animal protection, but I ask you to read the following entries that I will link to below and make your own judgment.  I have never been a fan of this organization nor will I ever be.

Check out Jim Braaten’s Sportsman’s Blog and read about how PETA was caught for killing animals and dumping them in a NC dumpster.

See here where the Governor of Colorado calls “PETA are a bunch of Losers and frauds”

More good stuff on Outdoors with Othmar Vohringer and his findings on PETA

and one more fun site…. PETA KillsAnimals.com

I could have ranted on my own, but these guys have done a good job already and I just wanted to raise the awareness on a few of these things so that it does not get swept under the rug

Anatomy of the Bassin’ Blog

This post is to help all your readers optimize your time spent here and get the most out of the Bassin’ Blog.  So I am going to break down the different functions and options you have.  Basically the Blog is broken in to 2 columns of information.  On the right is are the listing of most recent posts and summaries.  On the left (sidebar) there are a myriad of blocks of info and tools to help you get the info you are looking for.

Back to Main Page – link will get you back home no matter what area you are in.

Subscribe to Blog – place where you can enter email and you will get all new posts delivered to your inbox as soon as they are published.  This is handy so that you do not have to remember to go out and look to see if new content is here, plus you will have the info before anyone else.  You can also subscribe to individual topics and post if there is one you are particularly interested in, you will get all comments and updates.

Category Archives – I assign every post to at least one category, so that you can browse though these categories and find info quick, most are self explanatory.  ‘Tournament Info’ is where I log all my practice and tournament days on the water

Recent Comments – This displays the 10 most recent comments by other readers and myself, often I will add updated on comments to certain topics there, rather then creating a new post, plus I usually answer all questions left in a comment

Recent Entries – Browse most recent posts by title and date

Quicksearch – great way to look up a topic or word and see all the posts that contain that info.  Lakes like Amistad, Guntersville, Minnetonka or Patoka….    Or maybe baits like Tru-Tungsten, Secret Weapon or Swim Jigs….   You need to keep in mind that there are over 190 posts and growing every day, most of the time you can only see the current month on the front page, there is a lot of info if you are willing to dig a little.

Google Ads – these are text ads based upon keyword matching, everytime you click on them I make a few cents, so feel free and help offset the costs of doing my blog and other websites. I’ve even been thinking about hiring an external company like Linear to help drive my blog even further to success and the more traffic I get, the more it will inspire me to keep pushing forward with my blog and goals.

Monthly Archives – Browse by previous months, go back to January 2006 and see the humble beginnings of this Blog

BlogRoll Links – Other sites with good info that I like, check them out at your leisure

Syndicate This Blog – These are links for RSS (Real Simple Syndication) basiclly you can sign up using these links and content will be pushed to your Feed Reader, there are many and MyYahoo and MyMSN have them built in, if you are interested I can help you if you get stuck.  Just another way to be on the cutting edge of getting information.

 – if you see this symbol, it is a link to help you get RSS feeds setup through FeedBurner, click here and its falling down easy to get recent entries of the blog to show up on your MyYahoo or MyMSN home pages :0

Hope you find this helpful and just ask if you have questions.

Sportsmen Show on Friday

So, right after work on Friday, Dave Ham & I took in the St. Paul Sportsmen show.  I enjoyed myself a little more this year then last, but that may have been because I had lower expectations.  I am not sure why the show is so slow these days, I am guessing once a show starts to turn south it is hard to get it turned back around.

The highlight was watching all the stuff Dave bought after I looked at it   Dave got a really nice deal on a Shimano 2500 Stradic Mg that I almost bought at Reed’s (Thanks Drew).  He also spent quite a bit with Rick at Pro Tour Baits.  I actually bought a few things as well.  Dave got some new Big Foot Scum Frogs and some soft plastics and I got a couple Big Foots as well as some quick change blade kits to supplement my Secret Weapon Lures box.  Rick has some great prices on bulk soft plastics, you should check it out at www.ProTourBaits.com, he website is in the process of being updated, don’t let that fool you.

Also here is a video of a few bass getting after each other in the Bass Tank at the show.

Bass Fishing in Cinema

This morning I came across a small blurb about a potential new movie about Bass Fishing.

“Lionsgate has hooked spec script “The Bass Master,” a broad comedy penned by Tab Murphy and Devin Maurer that Todd Garner will produce through his shingle Broken Road Prods”

I am kind of excited, will the new Ike movie or this one premier first?  I have already come across a few critics that are mocking the potential of a bass movie, and the necessity of two in the works at the same time, but how much different will it really be from “Days of Thunder” or “Talladega Nights – The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” ?  I’ll watch, not sure my wife will go with me, but oh well

What are your thoughts, leave it, love it, don’t care?

Year in Review – Glance at 2007

Hey all,

Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary from my very first post.  365 days fly by in a hurry.  I thought I would just recap the journey that was year 1 for me in blogging.  When I started last January, there was not much out there for Bass Fishing Blogs, there are a few more now, but still somewhat of a void.

To date I have 17 subscribers via email, thank you to you whover you are.  I made 182 posts containing 95,583 words, which almost exactly a post every other day, not bad for year one.  There were also 156 comments from readers and myself.  I actually cannot believe I had that much to say or share

The most popular and viewed post was: More Chatterbait Options….
Most Subscribed to Post: BSX BioSonix – Gimmick or Real Deal?
Most Discussed (most comments): More Chatterbait Options….
Most Frequent Commentator: Billy Harris, follow closely by Bass Pundit

Over the last 3 months I have avereged about 33 visitors per day and over 60 pageviews daily, when I first started, I was not sure anyone would read it…..

Towards the end of the year, I have added much more in the way of sounds and pictures to enhance the multimedia experience.  Look for more of that in 2007.

I want to thank all of you that left comments, that helps me to know you are reading and care, it helps drive me to keep posting and digging for relevan conent.

What do all of you want to see, leave a comment if there are topics or ideas you have or want to see.

Website Dedicated to the Co-Angler

I found a bass fishing site that is new to me while I was surfing around….    Co-Angler.com!
This seems like a great idea, there is a huge population of bass fishing people that are non-boaters or co-anglers.  There are some neat features on tournament co-anglers.  It appears they are looking for people to submit material, so if you are a tournament non-boater and want to get recognized, check out www.Co-Angler.com

Iaconelli’s Federation Roots

Bassmaster.com just put a few nice pieces on Mike Iaconelli’s early fishing start and how he cut his teeth in the Top Rod Bass Casters bass club and New Jersey Federation.

Check out these two articles:

A night with Ike

Ike is one of several pros that got their starts in the BASS Federation, Denny Brauer, Peter Ponds, & Jamie Fralick as well as many others.

Just another reason to think about joining a local bass club…..

Build yourself or your club a website in minutes

Check out Angling Masters International, it is a great site that lets you enter fish catches and you can see how you rank against others on a state by state basis.  You just have to build yourself a ‘Cabin’ (personal page) or if you have a club or company you can build a ‘Marina’ which can be a great promotional tool.

Build an AMI Cabin and grow your community. You can include your favorite fishing photos in your album, add catches to your virtual Livewell, and find out how you rank against other anglers in your area. Get your buddies involved and have fun competing with your friends. Once you have an AMI Cabin, you can build your own network of AMI buddies, see what everyone else is catching, and find out where the action is!

Check out My Cabin or just browse around.

If you want a more traditional web presence, check out  Powered by www.godaddy.com !!

Bass Meetings Help to get through the Winter….

I attended one of our winter MN State Federation meetings on Saturday and I manage to get out of the board meeting early enough to catch the tail end of the 2nd free bass seminar.   After the meeting I felt energized and exctied for next fishing season even though our lakes have just started to freeze and it will be quite some time before they open up again.  Something about talkin about Bass with your buddies help to keep my spirits up in the winter and keep mu focus forward to spring.  Same thing happens at the local club meetings.

Seems line another nice intangible benefit of joining a bas club.  So it makes me wonder why more of you are not part of bass clubs?
I would like to hear comments from some of you that are bass fisher people and why you are not part of a bass club, what are your reasons?

If you never thought about it, then check out these sites and look into it:
GopherBass.com – My Club
MN Bass Federation Nattion

And if that does not do anything for you, check out this sweet video clip, it will be sure to get you fired up about fishing.
