Latest Bass Fishing Videos

This blog always seems to fall to a lower priority than my YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Definitely consider following me on any of those platforms to stay more plugged into my fishing activities and catch any fishing tips & nuggets that I pass on through those channels.

I am not giving up on the blog and for now, I am going to leave you with a few of my recent Bass Fishing YouTube videos. I am definitely putting more of my energy into my YouTube content as its something I really enjoy, but the downside it is time-intensive labor of love to produce high-quality original content in video format.

So here is a video recap of my trip to Alabama to fish the BASS Nation Central Regional back in April.

And topically if you live in the middle to the north part of the United States, here is a video covering my favorite bed fishing baits and tips.

Lastly, if you are into fantasy fishing like I am, please check out my YouTube bass fishing podcast series about fantasy fishing, called Fantasy Fishing Edge!

Thanks for visiting!

Mississippi River La Crosse BFL – April 29, 2017 – Bass Fishing Tournament Recap

My first tournament of the year has come and gone, covering what went down in this blog.  This is the first time I have ever fished an April tournament in MN or WI and not really fished this part of the Mississippi River in April.  For those that hate reading, just jump right to my tournament recap video embedded below.

That being said I have fished several tournaments out of La Crosse including several BFLs.  I was able to get two full days of practice the Thursday and Friday before the tournament and 2 hours on Wednesday night.  From the time I launched my boat on Wednesday night to tournament morning, the water temps went from almost touching 60 degrees to 47-48 degrees in the area I started the tournament on.

In practice, I had decent success flipping a black blue tube rigged with a 1/4oz BassTEK Tungsten Flipping Weight as well as a 3/8oz Bladed Swim Jig paired with a Menace grub worked around wood and grass.

Chatterbait Tube
My Best Baits from Tournament & Practice

In the end, I could not find the current based staging fish and as cold as the water got, my slack water banks and flats became trash with the rapidly cooling water and it pushed the fish to people like Cade who smashed them!  Check out his video to learn something about Mississippi River bass fishing.

Basically, during the tournament, my bites ended up being cut in a third from practice.  I ended up 69th place out of 154.  In the end, it was good to get the boat out and fish a derby early.  On the down side, I caught a really nice head cold.

I really believe that the guys coming for the FLW Tour in a couple weeks will really catch them on the Mississippi River.  The cold weather we had, will keep them fish from getting to Post Spawn for them, so they should have a lot of shallow biting fish to catch for their event.  I think the weed flats around Stoddard and “The Box” will look and fish like the “Monkey Box” of Lake Okeechobee, other likely popular areas to fish will be Goose Island, Target Lake, & Lawrence Lake in Pool 8 and then Lake Onalaska in Pool 7, a few guys will likely make the run to fish the upper end of Pool 9 as well.  Should be a very exciting tournament to follow, there will likely be spawning fish as well as a few frog fish starting to bite.  Swim Jigs, Chatterbaits, and flipping techniques should be quite strong as well.

In other news, check out this YouTube Fantasy Fishing Picks web series I started if you are into Fantasy Bass Fishing.

Bass Fishing Podcasts worth Checking Out

After getting several comments on my Facebook page asking what fishing podcasts I like to listen to, I knew I needed to write a blog to list them out.  Most of these posts and time listening to these podcasts was done while shoveling.  I have been busy and not doing a ton of blogging, but while walking my dog and catching up on some episodes, I figured I better knock this blog out before my boat gets back from its spring check up at Extreme Marine.

In no particular order or ranking, here is a list of podcasts that I am subscribed to on using Podcast Addict App on my android phone.

Bass Squad Podcast
This podcast is spearheaded by former UWSP college fishing angler TG.  It’s an eclectic mix of nerd reports, interviews, ramblings, but for the most part it centers around bass fishing and it pretty entertaining.

FLW Outdoors Podcast
Joe Opager and Jody White  both employees at FLW Outdoors do a weekly show recorded on Wednesdays.  Covering all things FLW fishing from BFLs, Rayovacs and Tour events, plus pro interviews, fantasy fishing and more.

The Outdoor Scoreboard
Best way to describe the TOS, is a couple of good ol’ boys from the Tennessee River Area talking all things bass fishing and some SEC sports.  Matt & David don’t take themselves to serious and have lots of guest interviews from all levels of bass fishing from highschool to Elite Series and more.

Ultimate Bass Radio
This is actually a California based radio show hosted by Kent Brown.  It definitely has a bit of a west coast slant, but cover a lot of tour level bass fishing and general fishing as well.  Downside is the all the commercials you get form a normal radio show are all left in.

Fantasy Fishing Insider
I may be slightly biased as I am often a contributor / co-host in the podcast.  Greg, Jason & I focus mostly on Bassmaster Elite Series fantasy fishing and occasionally if Greg is not too busy we do FLW picks as well.  Fair amount of guest interviews and quite a bit of slap stick and mockery along the way.

BTL – Bass Talk Live – Added 5.1.14
Thanks to a few comments & suggestions, I have started listening to Mark, Matt & Drew breaking down bass fishing as well as some fringe topics.  Usually multiple shows per week, this is actually a live webcast you can watch and participate via live feedback, but I just catch the replays via podcast.

Most of these are on iTunes for you iOS people…  But I subscribe to all of these by entering their RSS feeds into my app on my phone.  Then my phone does all the work automatically downloading new episodes and I listen to them at my leisure with phone and headphones or through my truck speakers.

If you got suggestions for other bass fishing podcasts, leave and comment below, I’ll check it out and maybe add it to this list and my listening queue.

Bassmaster Classic Week = Tulsa Time!

This week marks the official unofficial start to major tournament bass fishing for the year; yes we have had some Everstarts & Bassmaster Open events, but the real show starts with the Classic.

Like most years, I will be glued to the coverage all weekend long, so feel free to follow me on Twitter or on my FB page and I will make sure you are kept up to date on the high points.

Fantasy Fishing continues to grow and so do the prizes, so make sure to join up, couple of good leagues with free prizes, including those presented by BassTEK & Bass Utopia.  If you need some help making your picks, make sure to check out the Fantasy Fishing Insider Podcast that I help out with.  The high points of my picks are Jason Christie, Alton Jones, Brandon Card, Casey Scanlon, & Jared Knuth, to here the details and my co-hosts picks, catch the podcast.

Also, the Bassmaster Classic always gets me in the mood to buy lots of new tackle & gear, which means I will be listing stuff on ebay this week to make room for new stuff, catch yourself some deals!

Evolve Baits Contest & La Crosse Fantasy Picks

Back from Ireland, finally getting caught up and done a little fishing with things ramping up this week.  This weekend I will be fishing the NABC tourney on the Madison Chain and then checking out the Elite Series final day on Sunday in La Crosse.

But back to the contest.  I will be reviewing a few baits in the near future, Kompak Craw, VibraGrub & DarkStarr swimbait.  The winner of this contest will get some of each of these baits.  First step is to check out Evolve Baits website, then leave a comment on this blog entry with the size and color VibraGrub you like best and how you would rig it to catch your favorite fish on your waters.  Then leave a comment on my Facebook Page to tell me that you have entered the contest as well.

Also, be sure to check out Evolve’s Facebook & Twitter pages.  And if you can’t wait to see if you have won baits, check here to buy them anytime.  We will end this contest on July 4th.

I look for the La Crosse Elite Series event to be super competitive and tight weights up and down the standings.  Look for froggers, river rats and flippers to excel at this event.  So as of now, here are my picks:

$50 Sportsman’s Warehouse Gift Card Winner Announced!

And the winner is…..

MSPbass – I think the sun protection Buff kit is a great idea (http://goo.gl/JS4js), all the fancy lures and rods are no good if you have skin cancer!  You probably will have a few bucks left over for that Koppers Mouse as well.

Don’t worry if you are not the big winner this time, in the next couple days, watch for a contest to win some cool baits from Evolve Baits.

In other news, my fantasy teams are all set for this week and I took the kids out for some pan fishing.  I really need to do some bass fishing in the worst way!!!!

Kentucky Lake FLW Roster

Toledo Bend BASS Elite Roster

Bassin’ Hiatus

Believe it or not, my wife has convinced me to go on a trip that will keep me away from the Minnesota Bass Opener

Bottom line, won’t be much for bass fishing updates while I am in Ireland for next couple weeks.  You might find a few updates from my phone or tablet on the Facebook Page, but no hardcore blogging.   To not leave you hanging, I am going to leave my preliminary roster for Bassmater Fantasy Fishing on Toledo Bend.

Also, you still have two weeks to enter for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Sportsman’s Warehouse, get the details here.

Also, here is a picture of some goodies from Evolve Baits.  I will be fishing some of these Kompak Craws, Vibra Grubs & Darkstar Swimbaits, but in June you as a reader will have a chance to win some as well.

Below are my Lake Douglas picks, might tweek this, an Elite Series pro sent me a message and said to pick some flippers, not sure to go with this info or not…..

Who knows, I am feeling less committed to this roster the more I think about it!

Bull Shoals Fantasy Picks and much more…

Recorded the Fantasy Fishing Insider podcast earlier this morning, hopefully it edits and drops in time for all of you to listen in, but if not, here are my picks.

Last Saturday was so beautiful, had to get out on Pool 2 if only for a few hours.  Tried some new water, for the most part unproductive, caught a few fish though.

I am also excited for the Minnesota Bass Expo this weekend, looks like it is going to be a really cool show, check out the list of vendors.  I will be there from 4-8pm on Friday, probably find me walking around or hanging near the TBF or Kruger Farms booth.  FYI – Kruger Farms had some killer deals at the Northwest Sportshow, do yourself a favor and stop by their Bass Expo booth, they might surprise you, plus they should have some Dobyns Rods on display if you have not checked them out yet.

Don’t forget about the Aquateko contest, you still got 12 days to enter that contest for free tackle!

Last but not least, I did another quick video showing my system for organizing and storing my soft plastics for bass fishing.  Check out the video.
